Environmental Services works closely with infection control and patient care teams to clean and disinfect clinical and non-clinical areas, including patient care rooms, offices, washrooms and common areas. They also remove garbage, recycling, soiled linen and bio-hazard waste, vacuum carpets, clean and polish floors and disinfect walls and beds, among other duties.

Position Summary: Under the direction of the Manager, Support Services and/or Lead Hand the Housekeeping Aide performs the assigned duties in accordance with established work schedules, policies and procedures and safe work procedures. Qualifications:

The Calgary TELUS Convention Centre is looking to hire Housekeepers in our Housekeeping Services Department. This is a casual position where the available hours are based on booked events and schedules. Reporting to the Manager, Housekeeping Services and/or Team Lead, Housekeeping Services, this position is responsible for providing cleaning services to the Centre and the Glenbow Museum.
Duties and Responsibilities
Cleaning & maintenance of all front & back of house areas.
Porter service during client functions.
Floorcare: sweep/dust-mop, damp mop, auto-scrub, auto-sweep, vacuum, detail vacuum (corners, edges, under furniture), spot clean and shampoo, scrub/strip/refinish floors.
General cleaning: dusting (high, low, horizontal and detail), dry & damp wiping, sanitizing.
Washroom cleaning: clean toilets & urinals, sinks, washroom partitions, fixtures, mirrors, countertops, and dispensers, refill supplies, spot clean and wash walls, dusting (high, low, horizontal and detail), floor care.
Window and glass cleaning.
Waste and recycling collection and disposal from all public, client and staff areas.
Biohazard clean up and sharps removal & disposal.
Cleaning overhead signage.
Operating & maintaining cleaning equipment in a safe and proper manner, including, but not limited to sweepers, scrubbers, vacuum cleaners, carpet and upholstery cleaners, buffers, etc.
Replenishing cleaning cart supplies.
Doing laundry (cotton and microfiber cleaning rags, wet mop heads, and dust mops).
General outdoor services and maintenance, such as watering plants, picking up litter, sweeping entry areas & sidewalks, cleaning glass doors at entrances.

Job Summary:

Reporting to the Director, Housekeeping, the Manager is accountable for all aspects of the planning, organizing and directing management and staff and activities of Housekeeping operations for designated larger site(s) across Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH), Provides leadership and direction to all staff within the assigned services area, and ensures appropriate planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of related financial, human and physical resources. The Manager is also responsible and accountable for developing, implementing and understanding policies and service standards, creating and leading key operational projects (as assigned) and supporting other colleagues with similar responsibilities. May lead health authority and industry committees and working groups as required.
The Manager is responsible for building and maintaining exceptional customer service, and ensuring consistent performance and service delivery in keeping with commonly required standards. The Manager anticipates changes at their designated site/facilities that impact services, and plans and implements mitigating strategies. As a member of the leadership team, the incumbent is expected to participate in a respectful and productive manner, provide and accept thoughtful counsel and advice, and fully support decisions made by this team.
As a Manager 2, Housekeeping with Vancouver Coastal Health you will:
Plan, develop, implement and evaluate short and long range goals and objectives and operational opportunities in support of the identified strategic directions of the department and organization as a whole including new builds and redevelopment of site/facilities with a patient/resident focused approach.
Be responsible for overseeing the sites operational and capital budgets, understanding and achieving the financial objectives, monitoring and regularly reporting on performance and recommending and implementing remedial strategies.
Actively pursues improved quality of services by planning, implementing and verifying improvements in key processes. Identifies areas of improvement, provides technical advice and coordinates problem resolution.
Manage service performance utilizing Key Performance Indicators and other information, identifies variances and implements corrective action. Prepares and works with leadership in preparation and validation of scope changes following established guidelines and processes.
Participate in the regional planning process for the portfolio, consults and negotiates with internal user departments and external stakeholders as required to facilitate consensus, and to ensure a fully integrated, high quality, and cost effective service is provided.
Working with departmental leaders, implement initiatives to enhance housekeeping standardization, quality, productivity and innovative service delivery.
Provide leadership and support to all members of the team and motivates them towards the attainment of the departmental goals; recommends changes to organizational structures to reflect evolving needs and is responsible to ensure and support an on-going system for measuring performance.
Promote and facilitate excellence in communication in keeping with customer service philosophy and good business practices.
Respond to and resolves service related problems within the portfolio and seeks guidance from Subject Matter Expert colleagues as needed.
Be responsible for the application of various collective agreements at their site/facilities; facilitates problem solving and decision making pertaining to various labour relations workplace issues; and works collaboratively with Human Resources staff accessing their advice and support as appropriate.
Ensure that the Director and other executive management as appropriate, are informed of and aware of significant events and/or activities at other sites/facilities.
Carry out responsibilities in accordance with health and safety requirements. Immediately reports unsafe situations by notifying supervisor or other appropriate personnel.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or related discipline.
Minimum of seven (7) years’ recent, related progressive leadership experience leading large-scale operations and/or initiatives, such as housekeeping, and preferably in a healthcare environment, or an equivalent combination, training and experience.
Knowledge & Abilities
Demonstrated ability to lead, plan, manage, implement, organize and problem solve.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively including collaborating within a team environment and make presentation to groups.
Demonstrated ability to function effectively in a highly dynamic environment.
Demonstrated ability to be effective in an environment subject to continuous change.
Working knowledge of applicable regulations, legislation and collective agreements.
Demonstrated leadership ability and highly develops interpersonal and communication skills.
Broad knowledge of health facility support service operations.
Extensive experience in managing projects to achieve results.
Broad knowledge of the BC Health Care Industry environment.
Effective leadership and communication skills to foster a respectful and motivating environment.
Strong analytical, organizational, communication, interpersonal and administrative skills.
Computer literacy with current word-processing, spreadsheets and database programs.
Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
