Job Role Summary
Examine, diagnose, and treat diseases, injuries, and malformations of teeth and gums. May treat diseases of nerve, pulp, and other dental tissues affecting oral hygiene and retention of teeth. May fit dental appliances or provide preventive care.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Administer anesthetics to limit the amount of pain experienced by patients during procedures.
- Use masks, gloves and safety glasses to protect themselves and their patients from infectious diseases.
- Examine teeth, gums, and related tissues, using dental instruments, x-rays, or other diagnostic equipment, to evaluate dental health, diagnose diseases or abnormalities, and plan appropriate treatments.
- Formulate plan of treatment for patient’s teeth and mouth tissue.
- Use air turbine and hand instruments, dental appliances and surgical implements.
- Diagnose and treat diseases, injuries, or malformations of teeth, gums, or related oral structures and provide preventive or corrective services.
- Advise or instruct patients regarding preventive dental care, the causes and treatment of dental problems, or oral health care services.
- Treat exposure of pulp by pulp capping, removal of pulp from pulp chamber, or root canal, using dental instruments.

POSITION SUMMARY
The Associate Dentist (AD) is responsible for administering, maintaining, and expanding a program of primary (and in selected cases, secondary) care and preventive dental care in a group practice setting. Dentist Basic Requirements:

United States and Canadian schools of dentistry listed by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA), in the list published for the year in which the course of study was completed.

Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia as qualifying for full and unrestricted licensure provided the licensure requirements include a written examination measuring science achievement and a performance examination measuring clinical competence.
Residency: Completion of an approved residency program in general practice or specialty, or comparable experience as a dentist actively involved in treating medically compromised patients.
License: Dentists in the VHA must hold a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States (i.e., Puerto Rico), or in the District of Columbia. The dentist must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure.
Grade Determinations: To be considered for a Staff Dentist position with the VHA, a successful candidate will possess the ability in the field of general dentistry or a dental specialty, who is employed to perform the duties related to various professional activities of patient care and treatment without supervision. In addition to meeting the basic requirements, applicants must:
- Demonstrate ability in the general practice of dentistry
- Be capable of assisting in maintaining accepted standards of professional care in VA facilities

Responsibilities:
- Traveling Associate Dentists are responsible for providing dental services to patients with the support of their team.
- Hold staff to the highest integrity by adhering to all government regulations, company standards, and company compliance programs.
- Other duties as assigned
Our practice has:
- DentaPro software
- Digital x-ray and Panorex units
- Fiber-optic handpieces
- Yearly OSHA and HIPPA and Emergency Management training
- Ratio of 1 hygienist, 1 hygiene assistant, 2 dental assistants per provider
Patient Base: primarily ages 3-21 and up to 30% adult population (depending upon location)
Office flow: average 10-12 operative patients and 20-25 hygiene patients
State insurance plans, PPO and out-of-network payor mix
Qualifications:
- We expect you to have:
- DDS/DMD from a dental education program accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation
- Current, valid license to practice dentistry in states where providing care or eligible for licensure
- Other certifications as required – CPR, DEA, etc.
- Nitrous Oxide certification (only LA, MS, DC, TX, MA)
- Compassion and a strong desire to provide dental care to both children and adults
This opportunity provides:
- Earn an additional $400 each week for traveling to other offices within your geographic area – all expenses paid (hotel, mileage, meals)
